Stefanos Tsitsipas’ tough run of form took another hit on Wednesday.
The Greek was beaten 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 by Fabian Marozsan in Munich after missing a match point, adding another frustrating chapter to what’s becoming a worrying season.
The loss means he is set to drop to world number 78 when the rankings update, his lowest spot in eight years.
Boris Becker has shared his thoughts on Stefanos Tsitsipas’ current situation, suggesting it might be time for the Greek player to make some adjustments. The comments came through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Wondering when does he [Tsitsipas] realise, he might have to change a few things in his professional life?” Becker wrote.
“He is still young enough to turn it around if he really wants to…”
It’s been a challenging year for Tsitsipas, with several coaching changes adding instability to his camp.
After parting ways with his father Apostolos in 2024, he brought in Goran Ivanisevic later that year, but the partnership didn’t last long. By July, they had already split and Tsitsipas returned to working with his father again.
The 27-year-old has now lost four of his past five opening-round matches and has only won two of seven matches during that period.
Next up on Stefanos Tsitsipas’ calendar is the Madrid Open, set to run from April 22 to May 3.
The Greek star reached the round of 32 in last year’s tournament before being beaten by Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets, 5-7, 6-7.
Tsitsipas’ best showing in Madrid remains his 2019 run when he made it all the way to the final before losing to Novak Djokovic, 3-6, 4-6.
“He deserved the victory, he played unbelievable,” Tsitsipas told reporters after that match. “I couldn’t do much.”
“Really like I think his performance this week — I didn’t play with all the guys, but pretty sure was the best. So physically I was not there.
“My legs were not coping with my mind. Completely I could feel the fatigue and this soreness, not just in my legs, but everywhere in my body.
“And yes, he played quite smart. He tried moving me around the court. He knew I had a tough match last night, so he took advantage of that knowing that, you know, he’s going to have to make me run and suffer more and I just didn’t have solutions.”
