The 22-year-old tennis superstar Carlos Alcaraz recently debuted a bold new look—platinum blonde buzzcut— after his 2025 US Open victory, that’s got the internet buzzing. The transformation followed a buzzcut he attributed to a botched home haircut by his brother.

He said in his press conference after winning the US Open that he had something ‘better’ planned for his hair after the tournament and that it was going to be a surprise! He certainly was not joking.
Alcaraz’s new platinum blonde buzzcut can be compared to the famous rapper Eminem’s iconic blonde look, particularly the bleach-blonde phase that defined his early 2000s era. Both transformations involve a bold, high-contrast platinum dye job on short hair, creating an attention-grabbing vibe that exudes confidence and reinvention. If Alcaraz keeps the look for the Laver Cup later this month, expect some Eminem memes to drop.
It’s fair to say Alcaraz was produced in a lab to create content for tennis. He is providing us with some great entertainment on and off camera. In 20 years, it’s gonna be hilarious to look back at all the different hair he had while holding major trophies. It will be interesting to see which major hairstyle change he will rock next: a mullet, a mow hawk, or a man bun?
Carlos Alcaraz isn’t the first tennis star to make waves with a hair transformation. Over the years, several top tennis players have embraced the full-on blonde hair.
The ultimate tennis style icon and 8-time Grand Slam champion, Andre Agassi, sported a bleach-blonde mullet in the early 1990s. His vibrant, voluminous hair was as much a part of his persona as his thunderous groundstrokes. Agassi’s blonde locks, often paired with colourful outfits, made him a standout during his early career.
20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer rocked blonde hair during his junior years, notably winning the 1998 Orange Bowl with blonde hair and later sporting blonde tips in 1999, a look his mother reportedly was not amused with.
Former top-10 player Fabio Fognini debuted with bleached blonde hair at Wimbledon in July 2024. He even posted on social media asking fans to rate his new look. Fognini revealed the reason behind his bleached blonde hair was a bet he lost.
The American player dyed his hair blonde before the 2024 Rolex Paris Masters. He had considered the change for years and liked the look, although it was short-lived as he returned to his natural hair colour before the ATP Finals.
