Carlos Alcaraz wasted no time heading to Ibiza to recharge after a demanding clay-court season, where he reached four finals and claimed three titles. His getaway has even inspired fellow players to flock to the island for their own breaks.

Coco Gauff has planned to copy Alcaraz next year, while Novak Djokovic joked that something for sure happens in Ibiza that helps Alcaraz win after he returns to tennis. Cameron Norrie followed in the Spaniard’s footsteps by vacationing in Ibiza just before Wimbledon.

And now, he has reached the quarterfinals for the second time in his career, scheduling the match against the five-time Grand Slam champion. Before the quarterfinals, Alcaraz came from a set down to knock out Andrey Rublev following which, he was asked at the press conference to comment on Norrie’s mini vacation in Ibiza.

Yeah, a lot of tennis players have told me about it. So, I don’t know, I just going to ask Ibiza to pay me a little bit. I am just happy to see that the things that I’m doing is always helpful for other players, just to…to be happy or to play good tennis. It doesn’t matter if it’s Ibiza or other places. Just find a place that’s been peaceful for them.

Alcaraz ended the clay swing by defending his title at the French Open, where in the final, he came from two sets down to beat World No.1 Jannik Sinner, who he faced for the first time in a Grand Slam final. He could again schedule a blockbuster clash with the three-time Grand Slam champion in the Wimbledon final.

The 22-year-old, after holidaying in Ibiza, continued his winning ways by lifting his fourth grass-court title at the Queen’s Club Championships by beating Jiri Lehecka. It was also his second victory in the tournament following the 2023 season.

Carlos Alcaraz says he played the best match of Wimbledon against Andrey Rublev

Carlos Alcaraz dropped a set for the fourth time in the ongoing Wimbledon. Andrey Rublev took the first set off him but the Murcia native was successful in forcing a comeback and eventually won the match with a 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. At the press conference then, Alcaraz explained why he thinks he produced his best in the tournament so far against the Russian ace.

Today I played my best match so far in the tournament, and I feel great. Obviously, at Roland Garros, it was totally different because I was playing more matches on clay before the tournament, so right now I’m trying to regain that feeling.

Rublev was a quarterfinalist at Wimbledon in 2023. He has reached the last eight of every Major but has never progressed to the semifinals.

Alcaraz, on the other hand, is chasing his third consecutive Wimbledon title. In the previous two seasons, he upset Novak Djokovic in the finals. Alcaraz could again face the 24-time Grand Slam champion in the final. If Alcaraz wins, then he will complete the Channel Slam two times on the trot.

Alcaraz has met his quarterfinal opponent Cameron Norrie six times, winning four of those matches. But they have not yet faced each other since the 2023 Rio Open final, which Norrie won.

The 29-year-old has not yet won a tournament since that match. Last year, he had reached one final, at the Moselle Open, but ended up losing it to Benjamin Bonzi. The upcoming match will be their first encounter on grass. Norrie has reached just one grass-court final, at the 2021 Queen’s Club Championships, but failed to beat Matteo Berrettini.
