Carlos Alcaraz Responds to Toni Nadal’s Compliments After US Open Title Win

At the 2025 US Open, Carlos Alcaraz clinched his sixth Grand Slam title. It also marks his 23rd career title, with his singles title count now being greater than his age, i.e., 22. His impressive performance and also his dominance on clay are reminiscent of his older compatriot, Rafael Nadal, who had also captured six Grand Slam titles before turning 23.

The ‘King of Clay’ was coached by his uncle Toni Nadal, who has often spoken highly of Alcaraz, even going on to suggest earlier that he has the skills to equal or surpass Novak Djokovic’s records. After Alcaraz’s US Open triumph, he spoke to EL PAÍS and three other media outlets wherein he was asked to respond to Toni’s remarks about him – “he’s capable of doing everything, and everything well. And he doesn’t give away praise.” The two-time US Open champion responded:

It’s my style; I like to play like that. I’ve been the same since I was little. I think I can do a lot of things on the court, a lot of shots; from hitting drop shots to hitting spin shots. Plus, I’m increasingly happy with my physique, because it gives you a lot of confidence.

Alcaraz was truly phenomenal at the US Open. He reached the finals of the tournament without dropping a set, becoming the first person to do so since Roger Federer in 2015. In the final he outclassed the defending champion and archrival Jannik Sinner with his variety and creativity.

He used every weapon from his arsenal, from his signature drop shots to slices and volleys, and overcame the Italian in four sets. He has now won multiple Grand Slams on each surface, showcasing his prowess as an all-surface player. With this victory he has also reclaimed the World No. 1 rank after more than a year.

Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from the Davis Cup

After an exhausting North American hard court swing, Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from this weekend’s Davis Cup second-round qualifier for Spain. Prior to the US Open title run, Alcaraz also won the title in Cincinnati and played in the US Open mixed doubles alongside Emma Raducanu. Speaking to Cadena SER about his withdrawal, Alcaraz remarked:

I feel very bad, but I’m on a very demanding tour, both mentally and physically, with a lot of matches, and I don’t have time to get home and prepare in the best way possible for the Davis Cup. I think that would be too selfish, and other players can do better than me. I need rest to face the rest of the season and, above all, to be mentally calm to assimilate everything I’ve achieved on this tour.

As the six-time Davis Cup champions take on Denmark, they will also be without Spanish No. 2 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who withdrew due to fatigue. The Spanish squad now boasts Jaume Munar, Pedro Martinez, Roberto Carballes Baena, Pablo Carreno Busta, and Marcel Granollers, who clinched the US Open doubles title alongside Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos.

Carlos Alcaraz stuns everyone with new hairstyle

Carlos Alcaraz’s haircut at the US Open stirred quite the buzz. The Spanish tennis star had to shave off his head after a misunderstanding with the machine by his elder brother.

Alcaraz later stated that he would surprise everyone with a new hairstyle if he won the US Open, and he rightfully did so. Once he returned to his, Alcaraz stunned everyone with a new bold blonde look, with the help of his barber Victor Martinez. The Spaniard is next set to compete at the Laver Cup in San Francisco.
