Carlos Alcaraz Reveals If He’s Surprised How Quickly Jannik Sinner Moved on After French Open Heartbreak

The fact that a month ago, Jannik Sinner suffered his career’s most heartbreaking defeat makes his 2025 Wimbledon triumph even more special. Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz battled it out for three hours and four minutes on Sunday (July 13), producing tennis of the highest quality.

Sinner never let his concentration waver for a moment because he knew how unpredictable Alcaraz was. When Sinner lost the first set, he increased his aggression and secured the next two sets.

But he was up against a player, who had made one of the best comebacks in Grand Slam events in their French Open clash. In that match, Sinner led 2-0 and in the fourth set, he was 5-3 at 40-0 but ended up squandering three championship points.

Sinner this time found himself at 5-4, 40-0 in their Wimbledon clash, serving for the match. Perhaps everyone watching the match was predicting a repeat of the epic French Open clash.

The Italian ended up committing an enforced error but when he served for the match next time, Alcaraz failed to return the ball and the 23-year-old raised his arms up in the air- a low-key celebration- as he became a Wimbledon champion for the first time in his career, with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 scoreline. Following the match, Alcaraz was asked at the press conference whether he was surprised how quickly Sinner was able to move on from the French Open upset.

Not at all. He didn’t surprise me at all. Because I know he’s a huge champion. Champions learn from the…I’m not gonna say failures. But they learn from the losses. I knew at the start that he was going to learn from that final. Not gonna make the same mistakes he did in the French Open final. The way he played today was really really high and I wasn’t surprised at all.

Sinner has also snapped Alcaraz’s 24-match winning streak. It was the now four-time Grand Slam champion’s first victory over him in their last six clashes. Sinner now holds a 5-8 head-to-head record over his arch-rival.

Carlos Alcaraz shares the difference between his Wimbledon and 2024 Paris Olympics defeat

Carlos Alcaraz lost a Grand Slam final for the first time in his career. But he felt differently than he did when 24-time Grand Slam Novak Djokovic beat him in the 2024 Paris Olympics final.

Last year, emotionally I felt very bad after that match. It was very hard for me to accept that moment. Today, I think I have learned a lot from those situations, and right now, I am very proud to have reached another Grand Slam final. I want to hold onto the good moments and forget the bad ones, accept what comes. I’m not feeling so bad, I’m happy. I smile because I appreciate having played in a final like this.

Carlos Alcaraz said at the press conference

Had the five-time Grand Slam champion won, he would have become the fifth man in the Open Era to win three consecutive Wimbledon titles after Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Djokovic. Alcaraz was also aiming to become the second man after Borg to complete the Channel Slam for consecutive seasons.

Sinner, on the other hand, has now become the first Italian to win the Wimbledon crown. The World No.1 needs just the French Open to complete the Career Grand Slam; and the way he performed in the clay-court Major this year, his victory looks inevitable.

Throughout the tournament, Sinner dropped just three sets to Alcaraz’s seven. Before denying Alcaraz his sixth Major, Sinner knocked out a struggling Djokovic in the semifinals.
