DRAW Iasi Open 2025 including Elina Avanesyan and Jaqueline Cristian as top seeds
Geoff Burke-Imagn Images

The draw has been completed for the Iasi Open which is due to take place between July 14-20, 2025 and is the second airing of said tournament.

Last years saw Mirra Andreeva take the title but the difference is this year that she is now a top 10 player so cannot play in this tournament.

Also in addition many used it as a warm-up for the Olympic Games last year, the need to go back onto the clay by many is not there so it has suffered as a result.

Elina Avanesyan is top seed with Jaqueline Cristian second and among a slew of home hopes who are in action this week in the second visit to Romania of the season after the Transylvania Open.

They were also dealt a blow by the fact that Maria Sakkari who was entered initially won't be playing in Iasi this time around. She decided not to follow through with playing as did Alycia Parks so the star power has depleted.

Avanesyan as top seed has it tough too. After facing Andreea Prisacariu, she faces either Patricia Maria TIg or Maria Lourdes Carle. Then in the latter stages it could be Sorana Cirstea or Varvara Gracheva.

A far cry from the rest of the draw. Irina-Camelia Begu for instance is the likely only stumbling block for third seed Ann Li from reaching the latter stages.

Cristian will face Jana Fett or Veronika Erjavec before then taking on likely Francesca Jones in the latter stages.

Other well known names involved include Jil Teichmann, Anastasija Sevastova and Nao Hibino for instance who will all battle for the title in what is a good opportunity for a lesser known light to thrive and seal a WTA 250.

Who claims the title this year? The run-in to the US Open begins after this so it is a good opportunity.
