'Feels like just hitting my head against the wall': Jessica Pegula frustrated at annual Roland Garros night session snub

Jessica Pegula took down Marketa Vondrousova and perhaps has the best route through to the Quarter-Finals albeit a banana skin of sorts in facing Lois Boisson at the French Open. But amid her superb comeback win 6-3, 4-6, 2-6, the chatter soon turned to night sessions.

Amelie Mauresmo was cited in a heated discussion with journalist Matt Futterman of The Athletic after frustrations continued to grow at a continued lack of equality when it comes to WTA and ATP night session matches.

Over and over, it becomes a yearly debate as WTA stars are snubbed for the big occasion and often the narrative is displayed as due to the men's matches having more sets for the money. Ons Jabeur has led the crusade this time and Pegula wholeheartedly agrees.

"It's never equal. I don't really know what else to say," Pegula said post win. "They don't really seem to care or want to do anything different about it.

"I mean, I agree with [Ons Jabeur]. It should be more fair. We are an event that is supposed to be equal. Slams, it's supposed to be equal. Why not give us some more chances to be."

The World No.3 said it's like hitting her head against a wall and that it never changes. She added that they deserve the chance to shine.

"It feels like just hitting my head against the wall because I feel like we have been talking about this for two, three, four, probably forever, to be honest, because it's never been equal," Pegula added.

"I'm happy that she's able to speak up, and obviously she's always been really good at wanting everything to be equal and fighting for not just where she's from, but also for women in general.

"So, yeah, I'm with her, and I think, again, we have proven that we deserve the same amount of opportunity."
