Novak Djokovic will play a ‘smaller’ ATP 250 tournament before the 2026 Australian Open.
The record-10-time champion will finish up his Australian Open preparations at the Adelaide International.
Djokovic last played the Adelaide International in 2023, beating America’s Sebastian Korda in the final.
Just a few weeks later, Djokovic won his 10th Australian Open title on Rod Laver Arena.
He’ll no doubt hope to repeat the feat, but won’t have it easy, as several other big names are set to join him.
One player set to compete in Adelaide was the man Djokovic beat to win the 2023 Australian Open…
Two years ago, Djokovic beat Stefanos Tsitsipas, 6-3, 7-6, 7-6, to clinch the Australian Open title.
Since then, things haven’t quite gone to plan for Tsitsipas.
After winning 14 Grand Slam matches across 2023, Tsitsipas won eight in 2024, reaching one quarterfinal at Roland Garros.
If that was bad, 2025 was even worse, as Tsitsipas won just two matches, one at the French Open and one at the US Open.
Those results saw Tsitsipas drop to 34th in the ATP world rankings.
There’s clearly work to be done for Tsitsipas in 2026, and he has already sorted his schedule out for the start of January.
Tsitsipas will kick off his 2026 campaign at the United Cup, competing alongside Maria Sakkari in the mixed gender competition.
Then, he’ll travel to Adelaide for the Adelaide International ATP 250 tournament (Begins January 12).
Tsitsipas and Djokovic will be joined by Jack Draper, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Tommy Paul, Jiri Lehecka, Francisco Cerundolo, Joao Fonseca, Alexei Popyrin, and others in Adelaide.
Competing in such a strong field, Tsitsipas will have a chance to test himself against some of the best players in the men’s game before the first Grand Slam of the year gets underway.
Contesting 30 ATP finals, Tsitsipas has won 12 titles so far.
He won his first at the Stockholm Open in 2018, beating Ernest Gulbis in the final.
Adding to his tally a year later, Tsitsipas took down Mikhail Kukushkin in the Open 13 final.
Winning another ATP 250 title shortly after, the Greek beat Pablo Cuevas in Estoril, Portugal.
Finishing 2019 on a high, Tsitsipas won the biggest title of his career, lifting the ATP Finals trophy in London.
He has also won three Masters 1000 titles, enjoying a spell of dominance in Monte-Carlo.
Winning in 2021, 2022, and 2024, Tsitsipas became just the second player (After Rafael Nadal) to win three or more titles in the 21st Century.
The rest of Tsitsipas’ triumphs came at the ATP 250 level (Open 13 – 2020, Lyon Open – 2021, Mallorca Championships – 2022, Los Cabos Open – 2023), except for his latest win in Dubai.
After losing his first 11 ATP 500 finals, Tsitsipas finally won his first title in 2025, defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Dubai Tennis Championships.
Only time will tell if Tsitsipas can add to his tally in 2026, but it will certainly be worth tuning in for.
Perhaps he will emerge victorious in Adelaide and exact some revenge on Djokovic, who beat him Down Under back in 2023…
