Stefanos Tsitsipas has highlighted what will be his priority while working with his new coach, Goran Ivanisevic. The 26-year-old recently hired Ivanisevic in the coaching department after a series of unimpressive performances.
Tsitsipas recently spoke to The Tennis Channel, where he highlighted that he is already learning ‘a lot’ while working with the 53-year-old. Tsitsipas stated that one of his objectives in the early days would be to work on his service as Ivanisevic had ‘one of the best serve’ of all time.
"We have already started working together and I am learning a lot every day," he said. "Well, I think it's fair to say that Goran is one of the best servers of all time. So I think the serve is definitely one of the priorities. He also has a wealth of experience in his career, both as a coach and as a player. That's why I try to learn as much as possible from him.”
Ivanisevic is a renowned coach in the tennis world, known for his notable partnership with Novak Djokovic. He worked with the former world number one for six years as a coach, during which time Djokovic won 10 Grand Slam titles. Their partnership ended last year after a series of disappointing results.
On the other hand, Tsitsipas is going through a lean patch. The Athens-born player is now ranked 26th in the ATP rankings, which is the lowest since 2018. This year, Tsitsipas has featured in 29 matches in the singles category and won just 18 of them. His most recent appearance was at the French Open, where he was knocked out after losing to Italy’s Matteo Gigante with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. It was the fourth consecutive Grand Slam where Tsitsipas failed to get past the second round. Tsitsipas’ next appearance will be at the Terra Wortmann Open, where he will face Luciano Darderi in the round of 32 on Monday.
