Holger Rune has responded to a fake comment about him on social media. An individual with the username @raghavv_01 posted a fake quote attributed to Rune on a social media platform X about not participating in the doubles event at the US Open this year. "I got offers from Raducanu, Qinwen & Sabalenka but turned them down because I oppose the entire idea that disrespects doubles athletes. US Open will realise how big a mistake they made,” was the quote.

The quote garnered a lot of attention as Rune did not feature in the post shared by the US Open a few days ago, which was full of high-profile players who will compete in the upcoming event. Rune, however, was quick to respond to that post and stated: “I did enter. Entry does not close before June 28.”

This year’s mixed doubles event at the fourth Grand Slam will be the first of its kind as it will be played before the start of the mega-event. To generate more interest, the authorities have successfully attracted several high-profile players to participate in the competition.

Men’s world number one Jannik Sinner will pair with America’s Emma Navarro. Number two-ranked and five-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz will team up with Britain’s Emma Raducanu. Women’s world number one Aryna Sabalenka will be playing with Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov, whereas 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic will partner with Olga Danilovic.

Rune is currently participating in the Queen’s Club Championship, where he has cemented his spot in the quarterfinals after beating America’s Mackenzie McDonald with a score of 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. He will now face Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut in the last eight on Friday. Bautista Agut secured his spot in the quarterfinals after beating the Czech Republic’s Jakub Mensik with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
