British tennis star Emma Raducanu has announced her coaching team ahead of the upcoming grass court swing, with one surprising return to her camp.
The world number 41 has confirmed the comeback of her former coach Nick Cavaday, who returns after stepping away from full-time duties due to health issues. Raducanu and Cavaday previously worked together before his absence, and his return signals a renewed push ahead of Wimbledon 2025.
Raducanu also revealed she will continue working with Mark Petchey, who remains part of her coaching team. However, Petchey is currently in Paris serving as a pundit for the French Open, and has not yet arrived in West Kensington to join up with Raducanu’s camp.
The British No. 2, Raducanu, spoke about the reintroduction of her former coach Nick Cavaday, saying:
“I’m happy to see him healthy, first of all… I mean, it’s been such a long time since we were last on court together in Australia, and Mark is in Paris commentating, so Nick was around and it was nice to just have a few days with him".
However, Cavaday won’t just be at the Queen’s Club Championships this upcoming week, as Raducanu revealed: "They'll both be helping me throughout the grass" . This isn’t the first time the former US Open champion has called upon previous coaches in her career, as her current coach, Mark Petchey, rejoined her team on an ad-hoc basis earlier this year after previously working with Raducanu in 2020.
The one-time Grand Slam champion is looking forward to having two of her most trusted coaches in her corner for the upcoming grass swing.
“I think having Mark and Nick, both people who have banks of experience, and I think they can complement each other really well. I trust both of them a lot,” Raducanu declared. “So that is a big fundamental for me. So, yeah, I’m looking forward to this upcoming season and seeing how it goes".
Raducanu has a very busy schedule ahead, as she is due to compete in the Queen’s Club Championships next week, whilst also having entered tournaments in Berlin and Eastbourne ahead of Wimbledon.
Speaking before her first match at Queen’s, Raducanu was buzzing to be back: “I’m happy to be here at Queen’s. It’s an event that I came to when I was younger, so to be back and playing it is amazing".
The British No. 2 will also pair up with Katie Boulter to play in the doubles event at Queen’s as well. Raducanu heaped praise on her partner: “I really like Katie and being on court with her is going to be great. Hopefully she’s going to give me a lot of direction on what to do, tell me what to do, and I’ll try and execute".
Looking ahead to this new experience, it seems as if Raducanu is willing to give anything a try in the upcoming months to bolster her chances of success: “I haven’t played much doubles, so for me this is extremely new and I’m not sure how it’s going to go, but it’ll be a good learning experience regardless!”.
