'It seems super surreal': Iga Swiatek celebrates unforgettable Wimbledon win

Iga Swiatek was visibly moved after claiming her first Wimbledon title, following a dominant 6-0, 6-0 rout of her opponent Amanda Anisimova in just 57 minutes. The Pole secured her 6th Grand Slam title, and her first on grass courts, solidifying an impressive 6-0 record in major finals.

Swiatek now completes the "Surface Slam," meaning she has won major titles on all surfaces, adding Wimbledon (2025) to her four Roland Garros crowns (2020, '22, '23, '24) and the US Open (2022) title. Swiatek is only the second player in the Open Era to win her first six Grand Slam finals, emulating Monica Seles's achievement.

The historic thrashing of Anisimova sets an almost unmatched record. The last time something similar was seen was in the 1988 Roland Garros final, when Steffi Graf delivered a double bagel against Natalia Zvereva. However, at Wimbledon, this hadn't happened since the 1911 final—114 years ago.

"It seems super surreal," commented the 6-time Grand Slam champion during the awards ceremony. "First of all I want to congratulate Amanda for an amazing two weeks no matter what happened today. I hope we're going to play many more finals here and at other tournaments.”

"I didn't even dream (about winning Wimbledon) because for me it was just like way too far, you know?" the new World No. 3 said. "I feel like I'm already an experienced player. But after winning, you know, the slams before, but I never really expected this one."

Swiatek finds her stride again by winning her first title since French Open 2024, a period during which she fell in as many as seven semifinals, in addition to the Bad Homburg Open final a week ago. The 24-year-old Pole moves up to World No. 3 – trailing only Gauff and Sabalenka – and positions herself second in the WTA Race.
