Jannik Sinner had engaged in a good conversation with the British Royal Family members after his 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, held on Sunday (July 13). As is often the case, celebrities across different fields graced their presence on Centre Court, enjoying tennis of the highest quality from the young rivals.

These celebrities include Hollywood stars Matthew McConaughey, Henry Cavill, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Greta Gerwig, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, among others. Among them sat the members of the British Royal Family- Prince William, Princess Kate Middleton, and their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Following his win, Sinner spoke to the Royal Family and revealed later what he had asked the two children. But Sinner at first had no idea what to say to them.

Yeah, in the beginning, I didn’t know what to say because in the…no, in these moments, you don’t want to…it’s difficult to understand, you know, how you can talk. I always try to talk very natural, you know. Asked the kids if they play tennis and asked what kind of rackets they play…these kind of things.

It was Sinner’s first victory over Alcaraz in their last six meetings, and his first this season after two defeats. The four-time Grand Slam champion now holds a 5-8 record in the head-to-head matchups against the Spaniard.

Jannik Sinner explains why winning the Wimbledon title is the most proud moment for him

Last month, Jannik Sinner was on the verge of winning his first French Open final. He fought extremely hard to take a 2-0 lead, but Carlos Alcaraz increased his intensity in the next set.

Sinner, at 5-3, raced to a 40-0 lead and Alcaraz held his nerves to save three championship points, and eventually, he claimed the set and next, the match, through the tie-breaker, to defend his title. Sinner had a few sleepless nights in the aftermath of the upset.

But the 23-year-old did not let the clay major defeat affect him in any way when he arrived at Wimbledon. At first, he was storming past one opponent after the other but found himself on the cusp of exit when Grigor Dimitrov took two sets off him. But later he ended up giving the walkover to the Italian ace.

Novak Djokovic, in the semifinal, was no match for him. Alcaraz had an edge over him in the final, but he couldn’t repeat what he did in Paris. When Sinner found himself at 5-4, 40-0, he ended up capitalizing on his lead to eke out the win. The successful turnaround means a lot to him.

It’s the part where I’m the proudest of because it really has been not easy and I always tried to be honest with me and had, you know, the self-talk too, what if what if…and I always try to accept it in a way and things can happen and I believe if you lose a Grand Slam final that way, it’s much better like this than someone kills you, you know, with that you make two games. And then after you keep going and keep pushing.

Sinner has now reached the final of every Grand Slam tournament. A win at the French Open will make him only the sixth man in the Open Era to complete the Career Grand Slam after Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Djokovic. Alcaraz, this year, was denied a chance to become the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam by Djokovic, who knocked the youngster out in the Australian Open quarterfinals.
