Jannik Sinner has now scheduled his second consecutive Grand Slam final match against Carlos Alcaraz. Both the players have shared the last six Majors between them, and once again, one of them will be emerging victorious on Sunday to wrap up Wimbledon.
The last player other than them to win a Major was Novak Djokovic– at the 2023 US Open. Since then, he has made it to five semifinals, including one final (2024 Wimbledon).
Against Sinner, the Serb has now lost in the Grand Slam semifinals for the third time. The World No.1 took less than two hours to secure the win over the 24-time Grand Slam champion in the Wimbledon semifinals. At the French Open, Sinner knocked him out in straight sets in the last four.
Following his exit, Djokovic brushed aside retirement talks as he is hoping to make his comeback at Wimbledon next year. His retirement will mark and end of the Big 3 era- dominated by him, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal– the winners of a combined 66 Majors.
Fans also described this era as the golden era in tennis. When Sinner was asked to describe his and Alcaraz’s era, he said it’s up to the fans what they would want to call it.
No name yet (smiling). Because you cannot compare what the Big 3 did for 15-plus years. Six Grand Slams in just one and a half years. It’s not that big. We find ourselves again in this position. This is the second consecutive Slam final we are playing each other, which is great from my side. I believe it’s good for the sport.
Sinner will now be playing his first-ever Wimbledon final. Before this season, he was a semifinalist in 2023 and a quarterfinalist last year.

It was Jannik Sinner‘s fifth consecutive win over Novak Djokovic and now, he leads 6-4 in the head-to-head matchups. Sinner has also improved his win-loss record over the 38-year-old in Grand Slam matches as he now holds a 3-2 edge.
Also, for the first time in his career, Sinner has secured the win over Djokovic at Wimbledon. Back in 2022, Nole came from two sets down to knock the 23-year-old out in the quarterfinal, before beating Nick Kyrgios to capture his seventh trophy at SW19. The following season, Djokovic defeated him in the semifinals in straight sets.
It’s very difficult to pinpoint Novak’s weaknesses. Certainly, improving physically has helped me a lot because it means you don’t rush to end longer rallies. I now feel much more comfortable in that aspect and, overall, I don’t rush as much, but at the same time, it’s very, very difficult to play against Novak. You feel the nerves before starting the match. Today was no different.
Jannik Sinner said at the press conference
Djokovic, for the first time since 2018, has failed to secure a spot in the Wimbledon final. In the previous two seasons, it was Carlos Alcaraz who denied him the win.
Alcaraz is aiming to become the second man after Bjorn Borg to complete the Channel Slam for two consecutive seasons. In their first-ever meeting in a Grand Slam final- at the French Open last month- Alcaraz defended his title in five sets after battling for more than five hours, saving three match points in the process.
Sinner and Alcaraz are chasing their second and sixth title of the season, respectively. The five-time Grand Slam champion is also aiming to become the fifth man in the Open Era to emerge victorious at Wimbledon three times on the trot.
