Murray
After the drama, also known as Wimbledon 2013, there are some changes to the Top 25 of the men’s singles rankings. Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, the 1st and 2nd seed respectively, have remained in the same position, despite Murray’s championship win against Djokovic in the Wimbledon Final. Former World No. 1 and arguably the greatest men’s tennis player, Roger Federer, dropped from the 3rd seed to the 5th seed after his early second round exit at Wimbledon 2013. His loss, along with Nadal’s loss in the 1st round, were the biggest shockers of the whole tournament. Nadal, who was ranked 5th, moved up a spot to 4th. David Ferrer took over Federer’s spot in 3rd, after a spectacular tournament. He lost to Juan Martin Del Potro in the Quarterfinals, who jumped from the 8th spot to the 7th spot. Tommy Haas and Jerzy Janowicz improved their rankings most after the Wimbledon tournament. Haas jumped two spots to No. 11 and Janowicz, who was previously ranked 22nd jumped 5 spots to the 17th seed after making an appearance in the Wimbledon Semifinal match against Andy Murray. Philipp Kohlschreiber suffered the greatest defeat in terms of ranking post-Wimbledon. He dropped 7 spots to the No. 25 spot after losing in the 1st round to Ivan Dodig. Other big movements also took place outside the Top 25. After a stunning Wimbledon tournament, Fernando Verdasco moved up 19 spots to the 35th spot and Ivan Dodig moved up 12 spots to the 37th ranking. Only 2 Americans are in the Top 25– 19th ranked John Isner and 21st ranked Sam Querrey. With the US Open coming soon on August 26th, it’ll be interesting to see if the Americans can shine. It’s going to be an interesting tournament to watch, especially after what we see at Wimbledon. The Top 25 are all excellent tennis players and all have a chance to win the title. The Federer-Nadal era seems to be on the decline, but the Djokovic-Murray era is on the rise. Will anyone else try to rain on their parade?
