Novak Djokovic’s Grand Slam supremacy: Still 10 Majors ahead of the rest of the ATP Tour

Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner claimed his 4th Grand Slam title, narrowing the gap with Carlos Alcaraz, who remains at 5. Both are still very far from Novak Djokovic's absolute record in tennis history. The difference is so vast that "Nole" surpasses the combined total of major champions who are still active.

There are 6 active players who have won at least one major title. The retirements of Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Dominic Thiem in 2024 reduced the count, and there hasn't been a new champion since Sinner won his first title at the Australian Open 2024. Since then, Alcaraz and Sinner have claimed the last seven Grand Slam titles disputed, establishing their current leadership in major tournaments.

The Grand Slam Champions

When totaling the Grand Slam titles among active players, Djokovic surpasses the combined total of all other players. There are five other players who have lifted one of the Tour's four biggest trophies.

The most experienced of them is undoubtedly Stan Wawrinka, who boasts 3 major titles – a remarkable achievement considering his best years saw him compete against the "Big-3" and other great legends of the Tour, including Andy Murray, Juan Martín Del Potro, and Dominic Thiem, all retired but who won majors in the same era. "Stan the Man" secured his titles at the Australian Open (2014), Roland Garros (2015), and US Open (2016).

However, his impressive 3 major titles have been overshadowed by the great success of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in the last couple of seasons. The Spaniard clinched his 5th title at Roland Garros this year, and only needs the Australian Open to complete the Career Grand Slam. Not far behind is Jannik Sinner, who claimed his 4th Slam title at Wimbledon, needing only the French Open to complete his Career Grand Slam.

Two other players have lifted a major title. They are Croatian Marin Cilic, champion of the US Open 2014 against Kei Nishikori. Similarly, Russian Daniil Medvedev – former world No. 1 – won his sole major title at the US Open 2021, and his ambitions for a second remain intact, despite his erratic form over the past year.

The numbers tell the story

With all this, while Novak Djokovic boasts 24 Grand Slam titles, the rest of the active players combined sum 14, still a distance of 10 major titles. This means that to equal Djokovic (assuming the Serb wins no new major titles), they would only reach this mark by the end of the US Open 2027. A record that further highlights the incredible nature of Djokovic's success in majors.
