Novak Djokovic's possible path to the final of the Madrid Open 2025

The Madrid Open 2025 is here. The draw for the draw was confirmed on Monday, with much to comment on. One of the protagonists was Novak Djokovic. The Serb returns to the tournament after 3 years. The last time he was there was in 2022, when Carlos Alcaraz defeated him and Rafa Nadal to win his first title in the Caja Mágica.

For this year's edition, both Djokovic and Alcaraz will benefit from the absence of Jannik Sinner, who is still serving a ban for doping. As for the former, with Andy Murray returning to his coaching staff, will he be able to win the Madrid ATP 1000?

Looking at the draw, Novak Djokovic's possible path to the final of the tournament is far from straightforward:

• 1st round: Bye (No contest)
• 2nd round: Matteo Arnaldi or a tennis player from the qualifying round
• 3rd round: Sebastian Báez
• Last 16: Frances Tiafoe or Ugo Humbert
• Quarterfinalists: Joao Fonseca, Tommy Paul, Jack Draper or Matteo Berretini
• Semifinals: Carlos Alcaraz, Alex de Miñaur, Stefanos Tsitsipas or Lorenzo Musetti.
• Final: Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, Holger Rune or Taylor Fritz.

In principle, Djokovic should reach at least the round of 16 without too many problems. However, it is from there that things intensify for him. By far the most complicated stage would be the semifinals, where he could face Alcaraz.
