'Novak has aged, he is slower, he has lost his liveliness,' Former world No. 5 sees Jannik Sinner overshadow Novak Djokovic in his quest for greatness

Frenchman Henri Leconte has recently given a detailed analysis of the current scenario of the ATP circuit. With the next-gen players emerging, the former World No.5 sees them replacing the game’s legends pretty soon.

In the ultimate quest for greatness, only one name stands out. Novak Djokovic, the current World No.1, has been one of the most-watched players on tour. Though he is going through a bit of a rough patch currently, the world has borne witness to what the Serbian is capable of.

However, Leconte no longer believes in Djokovic and reckons that he has lost his liveliness and age. Moreover, young stars like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been playing exceptionally well, and they are potentially en route to oust Djokovic.

The “Next Gen” has dominated since last year, but they must prove that they can remain at the highest level. Sinner wins and confirms with his exceptional start to the season. There's still Novak, but he's older and he's slower. He lost a little liveliness. Young people are less afraid because they feel that it is crumbly. Slowly, everything changes. said Leconte via Welovetennis

Djokovic has made his intentions for the upcoming clay season very clear. He will resume work in Monte Carlo and will hope to defend the limited number of points that he has for the whole season. While the Italian also is in sublime form, the clay tour is sure to present a few surprises and a whole load of entertainment.

Novak Djokovic switches focus on himself rather than the rankings

World No.1 Novak Djokovic has been the man under the spotlight for his recent form. Having started the year on the wrong foot, Djokovic looks to get back to his winning ways.

However, this drop-in has taken a major hit in his rankings, as Djokovic is left with just over 1000 points to defend. Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner has been on the rise, winning points with ease.

It's only a matter of weeks before Sinner becomes Number 1. This year's ranking is not my goal. My priority is to give the best of myself in the sequence which goes from Roland-Garros to the US Open, via Wimbledon and Paris 2024. said Novak Djokovic via Sky Sports

Djokovic also admitted that his goal for the year is to not maintain the ranking. Instead, it would be to try and give his best for the remainder of the year.
