Tennis fans are always quick to ask for a signature or some memorabilia from their favorite players after a match. However, an ugly incident at the 2025 US Open was resolved with a positive result after the intervention of Polish player Kamil Majchrzak.

The 29-year old faced ninth seed Karen Khachanov in the second round at the US Open, after scoring a four set win over Hugo Dellien in the opening round. To everyone's surprise, Majchrzak scored an upset win over the Russian, prevailing in a nail-biting five set victory.

As is customary, the winning player tends to remain courtside and sign items for fans, ranging from balls to hats and sometimes even towels. In this case, Majchrzak was signing tennis balls when he took off his cap and handed it to a child who was courtside.

However, an adult man next to the kid immediately snatched the hat and quickly put it in the bag of his female accomplice. The child was seen pleading with the man to return the cap, who laughed and instead handed him a pen.

Incident goes viral, Majchrzak responds

The clip found it's way online and accumulated thousands of views. Several fans called out the offending adult, labeling his behavior as disgusting. Subsequently, Majchrzak was notified of the clip and took to social media to ask for help in locating the child.

"After the match I didn't record that my cap didn't get to the boy," wrote the Polish star on Instagram. "Thanks to Asics [sponsor] I've got enough caps, so I'm prepared for that. Hey guys, could you help me find the kid from my match? If it's you (or your parents see this) please send me a DM."

The internet went to work, and an hour later Majchrzak responded, saying he had gotten in touch with the boy and his family.

"I am so impressed by the power of the Internet," wrote Majchrzak in an update. "We got it! All good now."

The former World No.75 will take on Leandro Riedi for a spot in the round of 16, with the Swiss qualifier upsetting 19th seed Francisco Cerundolo during their second round match.
