Preview and Schedule ATP Roland Garros 2025 Day Ten: Carlos Alcaraz and Lorenzo Musetti under fire from Paul and Tiafoe

The schedule for Day Ten of Roland Garros has been announced, with the start of the quarterfinals in the bottom half of the men's draw, seeking the first two semifinalists. Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will be the main star of the day, looking to extend his streak at the French Open.

It will also be a day with an American presence. 12th seed Tommy Paul will look to dethrone Alcaraz on Philippe Chatrier. A little earlier, Frances Tiafoe will have a tough task against world No. 8 Lorenzo Musetti, one of the most in-form players of this clay-court swing.

Lorenzo Musetti v Frances Tiafoe

Few would have predicted that Frances Tiafoe would reach the Roland Garros quarterfinals, arriving not in great form and on a surface that has never brought him his best results. Nevertheless, the American has had a great run, defeating Sebastian Korda and Daniel Altmaier along the way, and still without dropping a set in the tournament so far.

"Big-Foe" is making his 5th Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance, though this is his first not on hardcourts. However, there can be little doubt about the level Tiafoe possesses when he's confident, and he'll look to maintain his Roland Garros streak against the very strong Italian, Musetti.

The world No. 8 has been one of the great beneficiaries of the clay-court swing. He reached the final at the Monte-Carlo Masters and semifinals in Madrid and Rome, with a 17-3 record since the start of clay tournaments, which allowed him to climb into the top-10 for the first time in his career. This week in Paris, he doesn't seem to be dropping his level and comes after defeating No. 10 Holger Rune in four sets, demonstrating he's ready for big things.

Carlos Alcaraz v Tommy Paul

Carlos Alcaraz is the tournament's heavy favorite and the defending champion, with a 19-1 record on this clay-court swing and titles in Madrid and Rome over the last month. The Spaniard hasn't slowed down these past weeks in Paris and comes after defeating Ben Shelton in four sets. Carlitos also boasts an 11-match winning streak at Roland Garros, making him the clear favorite to claim the victory.

His opponent will be 12th seed Tommy Paul, perhaps the American with the best adaptation to clay. The 27-year-old hasn't had an easy time throughout the tournament. He staged a comeback in the second round against Márton Fucsovics – coming from two sets down – and then in the third round survived a five-set thriller against Karen Khachanov (24th seed). In the fourth round, he had no major problems against Alexei Popyrin and reached the French Open quarterfinals for the first time.

Both players are more than familiar with each other on court, with 6 previous encounters (Alcaraz leads 4-2). The Spaniard won their last three matches – including the quarterfinals of the 2024 Olympic Games, precisely on Philippe Chatrier. Paul will have to play one of the best matches of his life if he wants to pull off the surprise against the four-time Grand Slam champion.
