Day 5 of the French Open delivered another sunning blow to the tournament's seeded players. While no major upset took place in the Women's draw, men's side saw the end of the road for world No. 9, Alex De Minaur and Miami Open champion and rising star, Jakub Mensik.
The tournament, running from May 25 to June 8, has already established itself as an 'upset Slam' this year, filled with renoun exits across the first rounds. On Thursday, two incredible players said goodbye to Paris. Australia's best player, Alex De Minaur and Czechia's promising talent, Jakub Mensik.
The two stars suffered the same bitter faith as Daniil Medvedev (11), Casper Ruud (7), Stefanos Tsitsipas (20), Francisco Cerundolo (18) and Taylor Fritz (4) among others in the Gentlemen's Draw.
However Day 5 for the WTA followed the expectations for the first time in this French Open, with every major candidates securing their tickets to the next round.
The most shocking result of the day came when Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik completed a spectacular comeback against Alex De Minaur, winning 2-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in two hours and 52 minutes. The Australian looked completely in control after winning the first two sets convincingly, but Bublik's resilience proved decisive in what became his third career Grand Slam comeback from two sets down.
Bublik became the first player from Kazakhstan to reach the third round at Roland Garros, having previously held a 0-4 record in second-round matches at the tournament. The 62nd-ranked player had never defeated de Minaur in their three previous encounters, making this triumph even more remarkable.

Equally surprising was Jakub Mensik's defeat to Portugal's Henrique Rocha, who pulled off an identical comeback victory with scores of 2-6, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. The match represented a career-defining moment for Rocha, who had never won a main draw match at a Grand Slam prior to this year's French Open.
Mensik, the 2025 Miami Masters 1000 champion and currently ranked 19th in the world, appeared to be cruising toward victory after destroying his rival in the opening two sets. However, Rocha's tactical adjustments and mental fortitude in the final three sets proved decisive, as he capitalized on unforced errors and converted crucial break points to secure his amazing feat.
