Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter have opened up about the possibility of playing as a team in the doubles event at Wimbledon. The third Grand Slam of the year will begin on June 30, where players from all over the world will compete in different categories to secure the ultimate prize..
Raducanu and Boulter have teamed up to feature in a historic Queen’s Club Championship event. This year’s edition is a special one because, for the first time, it featured women’s singles and doubles events alongside the men’s events.
Raducanu and Boulter cemented a win in straight sets in the round of 16 against the pair of Wu Fang-Hsien and Jiang Xinyu with a score of 6-4, 6-2. The winning pair registered 58 points in the match, 10 more than their opponents. They converted four break points as well, three more than the pair of Fang-Hsien and Xinyu.
Talking after the match, Raducanu and Boulter asked about the chances of them playing together in the doubles category at Wimbledon as well. In response, Raducanu stated that they had not yet spoken about it.
“I mean, we haven't spoken about it,” said the Toronto-born player as quoted by English media outlet Daily Express. “It kind of came spontaneously, like all things do with us, but it went pretty well. We're just going to keep trying to do as best as we can this week and take it from there.”
Boulter, on the other hand, was in a humorous mood and asked the reports not to listen to what Raducanu said, but also confirmed that the pair had not spoken about the issue. “Scrap what she said,” said Boulter. “We're going for the Wimbledon title. No, I'm just kidding. We haven't talked about it, okay?”. Raducanu also explained that the pair had been close to playing together before as well. “We have had a few close calls,” she said. “Madrid, Miami, Paris potential.”
