This Saturday at the Six Kings Slam will feature both the third place match and the final, with four of the top five players in the world duking it out and a lot of money on the line. While the third place is obviously not quite as glamorous as the title match, it still features a top level matchup between Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz, a rematch of this year’s US Open quarterfinals and another opportunity for the American #1 to finally get a win (albeit non-official) against the all-time Slam record holder.
Head-to-head: Djokovic 11-0 Fritz
Both players were routined in the semifinals with the exact same score of 4-6 2-6, and both will be looking to make amends on Saturday and at least secure the third place in this tournament. For Fritz, there’s the obvious extra motivation of never having beaten Djokovic in a tennis match, trailing 0-11 in the head-to-head. While this match won’t count for the official ATP head-to-head, a victory here would certainly be, at least to some extent, a monkey off Fritz’s back.
It certainly won’t be easy as even at the US Open last month Djokovic managed to overcome Fritz in four sets, and he always seems to have answers for everything the American throws at him. That said, given the nature of this match and tournament and Fritz’s superior motivation compared to Djokovic, he might just be able to get a first (non-official) win against Djokovic, just like how he did recently against Carlos Alcaraz at Laver Cup.
Regardless of the outcome, this match should certainly be much closer than every quarterfinal and semifinal (which were all very one-sided) and serve as a fantastic apetizer before the final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
Prediction: Fritz in 3
