John McEnroe, who is notably known for his outlandish behavior and controversial opinions, recently dismissed the schedule extensions of the 2024 Australian Open and further labeled the Slam as a “money grab.”
The former American tennis professional often adheres to his off-court commitments, which include his role as a commentator for ESPN Sports.
The season’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open, is right around the corner and is scheduled to host rich talents with the likes of Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek, and Aryna Sabalenka.
The Flushing Meadows event recently broke the internet after announcing a massive increase to its prize money, which the players will mint provided their extended run in the hardcourt tournament.
While talking in an Australian Open media conference call with Mary Joe Fernandez, John McEnroe criticized the hardcourt event’s schedule extensions and further claimed it to be a “money grab,” an aspect he does not particularly condone.
First of all, it’s a money grab as far as I’m concerned. They just found another way to make some money. I don’t agree with it. I’m a commentator. No one’s particularly concerned about my feelings. McEnroe said via ESPN.
The retired tennis professional notably bagged 17 Grand Slam titles across the singles and doubles categories throughout his laudable tennis career on the Tour.
The players, if they accept it and they’re getting something from it, like some money for their pensions or retirement for some players that don’t have insurance, I would say that’s a good thing that they have added an extra day. He further added

I don't know any women who know the men's game. At the same time, I'm not sure men can really know the women's game. I mean, how would they know how women are feeling at a certain time of the month? . John McEnroe said via Salon.com

Jannik Sinner has now spent 14 consecutive months at the top of the men’s rankings and holds over 3,000 points lead above World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian star has also been the most consistent player on tour and always plays his best tennis in big tournaments, particularly in Grand Slam events. The 23-year-old has won four of the past seven Grand Slams on tour. He has also been to all three major tournament finals played this season. Even though it was just his third tournament since returning from suspension, the 23-year-old still produced outstanding tennis but couldn’t win the title as he fell to Alcaraz in five sets. However, he got his revenge at the Wimbledon Championships, beating the Spaniard to win his first grass-court Grand Slam. Nonetheless, Sinner’s transformation on the court cannot be written without Darren Cahill, whom he appointed as his coach in 2022. Since their partnership began, Sinner has claimed four Grand Slams and four Masters 1000 titles, which are classified as big titles. This season, the World No.1 has been to the final of all the big tournaments he has competed in. In an interview with ATP, Cahill revealed that he’s proud of how far he and Sinner’s coaching team have developed the 23-year-old. He added that the current good results on the court are a reflection of two years’ work together in practice: That’s why we are so proud as coaches, because all that work you’ve been doing for the past three years eventually shows up in a big match, at a big tournament, for him to be able to get through and win that match. So it’s not just four or five days when you can make those big changes. It’s the combination of a year or two of just pushing him day to day and making sure we continue to work on those things. Najee Harris may have role reduced after fireworks accident
Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris still has yet to return to action after a July 4 fireworks accident, and it sounds like he does not necessarily have a job guaranteed to him when he does. He can earn up to $9.25 million on his one-year deal, but that will require him to remain part of the rotation with Hampton.
