Taylor Fritz has given his view on whether Novak Djokovic can go on to win the US Open after their latest meeting.

It was a straightforward affair, far from the close contest many had predicted, with Djokovic controlling the match from start to finish.

Fritz went down in four sets, unable to find any way through against an opponent he’s never managed to beat.

Taylor Fritz comments on Novak Djokovic’s chances at US Open

“I mean it all depends if he stays healthy and stays fit. This is probably the healthiest I’ve seen him look this year in a while so if he can keep that up, then yeah.”

That said, it would be no surprise if Djokovic goes on to lift another title here. The Serbian is still playing at an incredibly high level even now, and when healthy he remains nearly impossible to stop.

Taylor Fritz says he was looking forward to facing Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner

Fritz addressed these concerns after the match, noting the challenge Djokovic faces.

With Carlos Alcaraz up next and a potential final against Jannik Sinner, Djokovic’s path goes through the top two players in the world – both playing some of their best tennis recently.

“It’s tough to say because I think that the level increased a lot in the fourth set. He served better and made a lot less mistakes. He played better in the fourth.

“I think the first three sets, I don’t think either one of us played our best. I think that it just depends how much this one took out of him. I really can’t speak for him.”

He added: “I am not sure, but I was really excited at the fact that is what I was looking at in the draw. I was like, I have the opportunity to do the coolest thing ever and potentially try to go through Novak, Carlos and Sinner.

I liked the challenge, so I am sure that, being the competitor that he is, is very excited for that challenge.”

Djokovic has also spoken about preparing to face Alcaraz and seems fully aware of what kind of game lies ahead against another top player.

Taylor Fritz’s poor head-to-head record against Djokovic, Alcaraz, and Sinner

Fritz’s record against top players hasn’t made for good reading. His loss to Djokovic at the US Open extended his losing streak to 11 straight matches.

It isn’t much better against the others, either. Fritz has only beaten Sinner once in five attempts, and that win came in their very first meeting back in 2020.

Against Carlos Alcaraz, he hasn’t managed a single victory in three meetings. Their most recent encounter was a straight-sets defeat at Wimbledon.

That leaves Fritz with just one win from 18 matches across these three players – a record that highlights just how tough it’s been for him at the highest level.
