Tennis in the Land Cleveland Open 2025: Entry List, Schedule of play, Prize money, Draw and Predictions

Tennis in the Land also known as the Cleveland Open is the final stop en route to the US Open and sees many of the mid pack in the WTA find their footing towards Flushing Meadows. Taking place in the same state as Cincinnati it is only a short drive over to the next tournament.

Taking place between August 17 - August 23, 2025, it is on the outside courts of the Nautica Entertainment Complex and was created to bring women's tennis to the otherside of Ohio too. McCartney Kessler has since ascended but was a wildcard last year and lifted the title. She does not return this time though.

Leading the draw though are the likes of Liudmila Samsonova, Dayana Yastremska, Clara Tauson, Maya Joint and home hero Peyton Stearns. Eva Lys, Anastasia Potapova, Elina Avanesyan are also involved in a top field for a WTA 250 tournament.

Anett Kontaveit won in 2021 seeing off Irina-Camelia Begu in the final in the inaugural airing. Liudmila Samsonova won in 2022 and returns this year while Sara Sorribes Tormo was the 2023 champion. McCartney Kessler like alluded to won in 2024.

Predictions

Samuel Gill, Head Editor for TennisUpToDate.comĀ sees likely one of a few players winning it.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Maya Joint win yet another title over the next day or so. Clara Tauson is still playing in Cincinnati so whether she plays at all is another matter. If so I expect her to be up there but if not I think it will be down to other names.

Peyton Stearns I also expect to have a resurgence buoyed by that local crowd. She has been in the local area with the NFL team Cincinnati Bengals doing content with the players and has been too good earlier in the season for this form slump to be terminal.

Also Liudmila Samsonova is always a player who is there or thereabouts and in particular if Tauson doesn't play, I see her taking up that top player mantle. Eva Lys also was deftly unlucky against Madison Keys and is due some success at some point. Can it be this week?

Favourites

*** Maya Joint

** Peyton Stearns, Liudmila Samsonova

* Clara Tauson, Elina Avanesyan, Eva Lys
