Emma Raducanu made immense progress after returning to the Tour in 2024. The British star began the year as World No. 301 but finished the season as No. 57. With the hopes of taking another significant step forward next year, tennis legends Mats Wilander and Laura Robson have predicted Raducanu to have the biggest comeback in 2025.

The 22-year-old has struggled to shine on the WTA circuit since her unexpected 2021 US Open triumph. After a couple of inconsistent results in 2022, the British star sustained several injuries that saw her undergo surgery last year, which ultimately ended her season. She returned to the court in 2024 with a sparked anticipation about winning titles.

However, the season didn’t go as planned for Raducanu, as she failed to win any title. But she did secure a few wins against the Top 10 players, including Jessica Pegula at the Eastbourne International. Raducanu also reached the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championship, making it just the second time in her career that she advanced to the second week of a Grand Slam event.

During a conversation on Eurosport ahead of the 2025 season, tennis legends chose their comeback player of the year.

Emma Raducanu. I’m hoping and praying that she can be the comeback player of the year.

Mats Wilander said via Eurosport

Mats Wilander and Laura Robson tipped Raducanu to be the player to achieve that.

Why not Emma [Raducanu] for 2025, comeback player of the year.

Laura Robson added

Meanwhile, Alex Corretja and Tim Henman were not too convinced of their fellow legends; rather, they picked Belinda Bencic. The 27-year-old recently returned to the tour after being away for a year-long maternity break.

Emma Raducanu looking forward to be more fit next season

Emma Raducanu has made serious plans for the 2025 season. Recently, she hired Maria Sharapova’s former fitness coach, Yukata Nakamura, to help her deal with her fitness concerns. The renowned coach will work alongside her lead coach Nick Cavaday. The former World No.10 is aiming to establish herself at the top of the WTA circuit.

She said that she’s looking forward to featuring in more tournaments this season. The British star added that she’s set up for a successful next year.

I want to play more than I did this year. I think now, with my set-up, I’m in a place where I can continue work on the road. So I don’t necessarily need to come back to continue good physical work. I can do it pretty much every day, like microdoses. And I think that’s actually going to be a great addition for me next year, which I’m excited about.

Raducanu will open her 2025 campaign at the Auckland International, where she’s the sixth seed. The British have a good chance to win the title ahead of the Australian Open, which starts on January 12.
