Nick Kyrgios has taken a dig at the BBC after being snubbed for the upcoming Wimbledon transmission. The 30-year-old, regarded as one of the most controversial and outspoken figures in tennis, was set to feature as part of the panel on the British broadcaster for the second Grand Slam of the year, which begins on June 30.

However, English media outlet The Telegraph reported on June 10th that Kyrgios will not feature in the transmission. The report stated that the BBC’s decision is based on receiving backlash for hiring Kyrgios after he admitted to assaulting his girlfriend.

There has been no official announcement from the BBC regarding the decision not to include Kyrgios on the panel, despite it being reported by The Telegraph. The Canberra-born player has recently spoken to The Guardian, where he took a dig at the BBC and claimed that his absence from the transmission is more of a loss for the channel than for him. Kyrgios also leaked that America’s Chris Eubanks will replace him on the panel.

“It’s unfortunate but it’s probably their loss more than mine,” he said. “I understand they’ve got Chris Eubanks but he hasn’t beaten the greatest of all time multiple times. When someone’s beaten Federer, Nadal, Murray and Djokovic and has incredible insights, it’s very strange you wouldn’t want that person adding knowledge to tennis fans. I’m sure our paths will cross again. I only ever want to add humour, some knowledge and some great atmosphere.”

Kyrgios is also going through a challenging phase in his tennis career. He returned to the court late last year after spending more than 24 months on the sidelines because of a serious wrist injury. Recently, Kyrgios had to withdraw from the French Open after suffering a knee injury. The same injury will keep him out of action from Wimbledon 2025 as well.
