Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner continued to shape the landscape of men’s tennis, picking up where they left off in 2025.

Alcaraz finished the year as world number one, with Sinner close behind at number two, and between them, they claimed a total of 14 titles.

The Italian led the way in several key statistical categories across the season, but it was Alcaraz who won more tournaments overall,

His eight titles were more than any other player on tour this year, while Sinner’s six put him second on that list as well.

Even with their current stranglehold on the sport, and their potential to keep delivering at the highest level, Gustavo Kuerten believes Joao Fonseca could have an even brighter future ahead than Alcaraz and Sinner.

The former world number one, a three-time Grand Slam champion, stated to ESPN: “They (Alcaraz and Sinner) are incredible, extraordinary, they do everything all the time at an absurd frequency.

“It’s tennis at a level that nobody could achieve before, and naturally the generations to come… and we have Joaozinho who will be even better, because he also has that potential.

“We see great virtues in a complete tennis player: serve, return, mobility, especially those shots that leave the player standing still, which is rarer to see nowadays. But all three possess this advantage.”

Fonseca sits 24th in the world rankings at just 19 years old. He currently has two ATP Tour titles under his belt so far.

Aryna Sabalenka points out Joao Fonseca’s area for growth

Aryna Sabalenka, the top-ranked player on the WTA Tour, also shared her thoughts on the young Brazilian’s potential.

Speaking about him, the Belarusian star said: “He’s a great guy, very nice, with great tennis. A very strong athlete. He definitely needs to work on the physical side of the game, adding other elements to hit the ball even harder.

“I feel he has a great team around him and is working on that difference. For sure, in a few years, we will see him in the top 10.”

It is high praise from Sabalenka, who has a clear understanding of what it takes to reach the top of world tennis.

Fonseca is only 19 and still early in his development, so his strength should come naturally over time.
