Back in the Queen's Club final! Carlos Alcaraz secured another victory on grass courts, defeating compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 6-3, and advances to the Queen's Club Championships final. The Murcian will be seeking his 4th grass-court title this Sunday against Jiri Lehecka, who upset local favorite Jack Draper in the semifinals.
Alcaraz extends his winning streak to 17 consecutive victories and will have the chance to claim his third consecutive title. The numbers for the two-time Wimbledon champion continue to build his legend on the surface. Alcaraz's record to date is an impressive 28-3 (90%), the most notable for a player with more than 30 matches played on grass.
Alcaraz came into the match in inspired form, evidently having no difficulty maintaining a consistently high level on grass courts. He had a scare against Jaume Munar in the second round but dispelled any doubts with a commanding win over Rinderknech in the quarterfinals.
From the very first game, Alcaraz created his first break chances, but Bautista Agut managed to hold serve. However, in the 37-year-old veteran's next service game, Alcaraz capitalized to secure the first break and then consolidated with his serve to go up 3-1. From that point on, Carlitos held firm on his serve, and his opponent was never able to seriously trouble him. Throughout the set, Alcaraz hit 9 aces—outstanding numbers even by his own standards—and won 75% of his service points, compared to just 58% for his opponent. The World No. 2 took the set 6-4 after 42 minutes, with 18 winners against his opponent's mere 8.
Alcaraz maintained pressure on his opponent's serve from the very first game, preventing Bautista Agut from getting too many free points. The five-time Grand Slam champion again generated the first break opportunity around the third game but couldn't convert it. This was just a warning of what was to come a few minutes later, when at 2-2, Alcaraz seized his first chance with a cross-court forehand winner.
Bautista Agut fought hard in the latter part of the set and even had his first break point of the match, but he couldn't convert it. Alcaraz never let up and ultimately closed out the victory 6-4, 6-4, delivering a superb serving performance, considering his 15 aces and 75% of points won on serve. The Spaniard hit 36 winners against his opponent's 16 and advances to the final brimming with confidence.
