US Open Mixed Doubles 2025: Draw, Results, Schedule of play, Predictions and Format
Susan Mullane-Imagn Images

The US Open Mixed Doubles is due to take place between Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 August amid much conjecture with the tournament erased from its usual slot and now featuring top stars from across the tennis world.

This instead of the mixed doubles names with only Sara Errani, Andrea Vavassori, Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova having any sort of recent experience in the format. Novak Djokovic, Emma Raducanu teaming with Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner among others are involved among a host of stars.

There is £1m on offer and it takes place during the week before the main tournament begins at Flushing Meadows in what is usually the period many practice solely.

Whilst there are top names, there is also the potential for withdrawals with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner both in the final of Cincinnati. As is Iga Swiatek. Jasmine Paolini has already withdrawn from the event.

Predictions

Samuel Gill, Head Editor of TennisUpToDate.com sees one of two teams being the standouts.

A lot has been made about this tournament whether you agree with it or not is a completely divided debate. But being here to predict, it is very much for me the case of certain players being more likely to perform under the mixed doubles cauldron.

It'd be like putting an 18-year-old in the under 12's football team, it wouldn't work if it was full of mixed doubles stars. So I pick Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori to show why they are the class of the field when it comes to doubles. Also I would put even Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz if you are after singles stars.

They teamed together supremely in what is the only real mixed format used for the top pros and that it is the Tiebreak Tens exhibition. From there immediately they turned their attention to playing this event. Also Jannik Sinner and Katerina Siniakova for the simple fact they have the latter. I favour those with mixed double experienced stars.

Favourites

*** Sara Errani, Andrea Vavassori

** Elena Rybakina/Taylor Fritz, Jannik Sinner/Katerina Siniakova

* Venus Williams/Riley Opelka, Jack Draper/Jessica Pegula, Novak Djokovic/Olga Danilovic

Format

The format of the competition sees a best of three set match played over just four games with a deciding point at deuce and a tie-breaker if the scores are level at 4-4. The final will be played over three sets with six games required to win and a tie-break to decide if it reaches 6-6.
