American tennis star Tommy Paul almost injured his ankle during his semifinal match against Daniil Medvedev at the 2024 Indian Wells. While competing against the Russian ace, Paul rolled his ankle and it felt like he almost twisted it. However, the American survived it and continued to fight for a spot in the final.

Paul’s ankle roll brought flashbacks from the 2022 French Open when Alexander Zverev suffered a horrific ankle injury while playing against Rafael Nadal. Luckily for the American, he gained control before it went haywire and was able to continue after a brief halt.

Although Paul survived an ankle injury, the nasty roll was enough to send shivers among the tennis fans. A few reacted to the American rolling his ankle and also were thankful about Paul surviving a major injury. The 26-year-old was also lauded for his toughness.

Tommy Paul fails to convert a good start into victory against Daniil Medvedev

Tommy Paul survived an ankle injury but could not survived a defeat at the hands of Daniil Medvedev. The American could not convert a brilliant start into a win in the 2024 Indian Wells Open semifinal. Despite clinching the first set 6-1, Paul lost the match in three sets.

The nasty ankle roll did play a role in deciding the course of the match. As Paul suffered this roll when he was leading 3-2 in the tiebreaker in the second set, he seemed to lose momentum from thereon. Medvedev clinched the tiebreaker 7-5.

The Russian ace carried the momentum into the deciding set. The 27-year-old eventually won the third set 6-2 and booked a spot in the final. It was a hard-fought win for Medvedev. For Paul, it was a memorable outing considering his performances at the last tournament- Mexican Open he played.

The American star suffered a first-round exit in Acapulco. But Paul put this shambolic performance behind and registered some emphatic wins at the Masters tournament. His win over Casper Ruud in the quarterfinal was the highlight of Paul’s campaign at 2024 Indian Wells.
