The 2025 season has been a strange one for the defining women’s player of the 2020s, Iga Swiatek. For the first time since her emergence, she failed to capture a title on her favored red clay, and on paper she enters the post–US Open stretch with her lowest win percentage and fewest titles since 2021.
Yet despite that, it has still been an excellent Grand Slam season. Swiatek reached the semifinals at three Majors and overcame two of her biggest historical hurdles: winning on the slick hard courts of Cincinnati and conquering the grass at Wimbledon. With the year-end #1 ranking still within reach for the Pole, her motivation will surely remain strong ever heading into the final stretch of the season.
Swiatek begins her autumn campaign at the Korea Open (September 15–21), a WTA 500 event that offers her the chance to fine-tune her form ahead of bigger challenges. The Korean hard courts should serve as an ideal springboard for the remainder of her Asian swing.
Next comes the China Open in Beijing (September 24 – October 5), one of the premier WTA 1000 tournaments. A champion here in 2023, Swiatek will aim to add another deep run to her resume at an event that has consistently attracted the sport’s elite and has a stacked field.
She then moves to the Wuhan Open (October 6–12), another high-profile stop on the Asian calendar. This will be Swiatek’s first appearance in Wuhan, giving her a new stage to test her adaptability in challenging conditions.
The season reaches its crescendo at the WTA Finals in Riyadh (November 1–8), where only the top eight players of the year qualify. Swiatek, the 2023 champion, has already secured her spot in the field. The Finals will provide her not only the chance to claim one of the sport’s most prestigious trophies once again but also to stake her claim for the year-end #1 ranking heading into 2026.
Having already achieved milestone victories this year in Cincinnati and at Wimbledon, Swiatek now has the opportunity to close the season on a high note. How she performs in Asia and at the WTA Finals could prove decisive, not only in the battle for the top ranking but also in setting the tone for a pivotal 2026 campaign.
