A busy opening day of WTA matches is scheduled in Beijing. American stars Caty McNally and Caroline Dolehide’s contests are among those predicted here. As always, we here at LWOT cover all the action in our articles, but which players do you think will win?
Head-to-head: First meeting
Cirstea began her Asian swing at last week’s Korea Open, where she lost in the round of 16 to the eventual champion Iga Swiatek. By contrast, Dolehide has not competed since the US Open. Both women will try to bring their powerful forehands into play consistently. Whoever does that best is most likely to prevail. Cirstea’s better form and more recent match practice make her a slight favorite.
Prediction: Cirstea in 3
Head-to-head: First meeting
Zhang had a memorable run to the quarterfinals of last year’s event in Beijing, thrilling her home fans. The 36-year-old plays singles pretty intermittently, but can still perform well when she does. Zakharova’s recent results include reaching the semifinals at last month’s tournamrnt in Cleveland. Despite Zhang’s great memories in Beijing, I trust Zakharova more with her consistency to outlast Zhang over three sets.
Prediction: Zakharova in 3
Head-to-head: Siegemund 1-0 McNally
This is a battle between two women who possess a lot of variety in their games. They both use the slice, although Siegemund’s is slightly better, and McNally’s net rushes make her game different to almost any other WTA player. After an injury impacted last few years, the American has been playing good tennis in the last few months. The way she can put pressure on opponents by moving forward might not suit Siegemund in the Beijing conditions. Usually, Siegemund thrives most by frustrating from the baseline, but McNally will not allow her any rhythm if she plays well.
Prediction: McNally in 2
