There are eight first-round matches on the schedule on day two at the WTA Linz Open and, as always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for all eight matches, including Clara Tauson vs Anhelina Kalinina. But who will secure their spot in the second round in Austria?

WTA Linz Day 2 Predictions

Mayar Sherif vs Antonia Ruzic

Head-to-head: Ruzic 1-0 Sherif

Mayar Sherif has only played two indoor hard-court matches in her career, so despite the number of tour-level matches she has under her belt, the Egyptian will arguably be one of the more inexperienced players this week. Antonia Ruzic, meanwhile, is a young qualifier who played some brilliant tennis to make the main draw. Ruzic has already beaten Sherif convincingly at the Billie Jean King Cup last year and on this surface, she might just have the edge once again.

Prediction: Ruzic in 3

Aliaksandra Sasnovich vs Anastasia Zakharova

Head-to-head: first meeting

Aliaksandra Sasnovich is a former quarterfinalist at the WTA Linz Open and has been ranked as high as world #39. But the Belarusian has lost her way in recent years and as a result she had to start her week in Linz in the qualifying (though she did play well to beat third seed Anna Bondar and 12th seed Ella Seidel). Anastasia Zakharova is playing at this event for the first time and was also impressive in the qualifiers. However, Zakharova is inexperienced at this level and Sasnovich should have enough take advantage.

Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Lulu Sun

Head-to-head: first meeting

Lulu Sun has been in awful form since reaching the final in Monterrey last year and is on a six-match losing streak coming into this event. She will doubtless be eager to break this streak and get back to winning ways but Sara Sorribes Tormo is arguably one of the worst players to face when you are out of form. The Spaniard gives nothing away and loves to grind opponents. She has also already played two qualifying matches and that rhythm indoors might just give her a decisive edge.

Eva Lys vs Petra Martic

Head-to-head: Lys 1-0 Martic

Eva Lys made the most of her second chance at the Australian Open, with her run to the fourth round helping her break the top 100 for the first time in her caeer. If she continues to play at that level, she has a good chance to win some matches this week. Petra Martic. in contrast, has struggled lately though showed some good signs coming through the qualifying. When she’s on spng, the Croatian can be very dangerous but it is hard not to prefer the in-form player’s chances.

Prediction: Lys in 3
