Round of 16 matches are scheduled on Day 7 of the WTA 1000 event in Montreal, and the top half of the draw will be in action. This article features top seed Coco Gauff, who will take on the talented Victoria Mboko of Canada. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate. But who will advance to the quarterfinals?

WTA Montreal Day 7 Predictions

Lin Zhu vs Jessica Bouzas Maneiro

Head-to-Head: first meeting

World No. 493 Lin Zhu backed her brilliant win over Ekaterina Alexandrova by defeating Suzan Lamens in straight sets. She played a solid match and dominated her opponent right from the start. This is proving to be her best tournament in a long time, and another win will put her inside the top 300 in live rankings. Jessica Bouzas Maneiro came back from losing the first set to win her match against Aoi Ito. It was not her best performance, but she would be relieved to have won. The Spaniard has the chance to reach her first quarterfinal at a WTA 1000 event, but she must improve to beat an inspired Zhu.

Prediction: Zhu in 3

Marta Kostyuk vs McCartney Kessler

Head-to-Head: Kostyuk 1-0 Kessler

Marta Kostyuk had to dig deep to get a fantastic win over Daria Kasatkina in the third round. She lost the first set but started playing much better after that and hit some wonderful shots towards the end of the match. Kostyuk needed a week like this to get some rhythm back. She has a good chance of making the quarterfinals, but McCartney Kessler will have a different plan in mind. Kessler got a massive win over Mirra Andreeva in the third round and will be looking to back it up. Kostyuk will need to play a solid match and be consistent on serve to win this one.

Prediction: Kostyuk in 3

Elena Rybakina vs Dayana Yastremska

Head-to-Head: Rybakina 1-0 Yastremska

Elena Rybakina came back from a 1-4 deficit in the second set tiebreak to defeat Jaqueline Cristian in straight sets. She was imperious in the first set and then held her nerve brilliantly in the second set when Cristian was playing some great tennis. She looks confident this week, which is not a good sign for the rest of the draw. Dayana Yastremska is into the Round of 16 for the first time in Montreal as she defeated the #8 seed, Emma Navarro, in straight sets. Yastremska played with a great mix of power and precision and will need to bring the same level against Rybakina. Both players are big hitters, but Rybakina’s serve gives her the edge.

Prediction: Rybakina in 2

Coco Gauff vs Victoria Mboko

Head-to-Head: Gauff 1-0 Mboko

Coco Gauff once again made it difficult for herself by hitting 14 double faults against Veronika Kudermetova, but got over the line. She has done well to find a way of winning without playing her best, but she must improve if she wants to stay in the tournament. Victoria Mboko is a dangerous prospect, and her clean hitting has the potential to win the match if Gauff does not improve her second serve. The 18-year-old Canadian will have the crowd’s support to give her the extra incentive. I am going for the upset in this one.

Prediction: Mboko in 3
