WTA Sao Paulo Day 2 Predictions Including Alexandra Eala vs Yasmine Mansouri

The WTA Sao Paulo Open is making its debut on the WTA Tour. While it hasn’t attracted the strongest field, upon further inspection you’ll find a few very dangerous players in the draw. Some of them are kicking off their campaigns on Tuesday, including No. 3 seed Alexandra Eala or No. 5 seed Renata Zarazua. Can the Filipino star maintain her winning streak after triumphing in Guadalajara on Sunday? Who do you think will advance to the second round?

WTA Sao Paulo Day 2 Predictions

Luiza Fullana vs Renata Zarazua

Head-to-head: First meeting

This tournament being added to the WTA Tour schedule is a wonderful opportunity for players like Luiza Fullana, who probably weren’t expecting to get their first taste of main tour action this season. The 24-year-old has only briefly been ranked inside the Top 500 and competing on the big stage on home soil will be a massive moment for her. Yes, Renata Zarazua is not the kind of opponent to blow you off the court. But she’s also probably far too solid for the upset to happen.
Prediction: Zarazua in 2

Anna Rogers vs Panna Udvardy

Head-to-head: First meeting

Panna Udvardy is coming off a Guadalajara WTA 125 final, which she narrowly lost to Alexandra Eala. The former Top 100 player remains very dangerous on her day and there’s no reason why she wouldn’t be able to continue her momentum in Brazil this week. Anna Rogers is still a bit of an unknown quantity on the tour with her career just now speeding up after the college days, but especially of late she hasn’t been all that competitive and typically she’s not facing players of Udvardy’s class.
Prediction: Udvardy in 2

Elizabeth Mandlik vs Laura Pigossi

Head-to-head: 2-2

This seems like a fun rivalry and they’ve already faced each other three times in South America, but always on clay. Hard courts should typically suit Elizabeth Mandlik’s more aggressive game and it’s a bit surprising she’s coming into this event on a five-match losing streak. Opportunity for bouncing back is probably there, some of the recent encounters came against strong opposition or could have swung both ways. This match is definitely more about her level than it is about Pigossi.
Prediction: Mandlik in 3

Alexandra Eala vs Yasmine Mansouri

Head-to-head: First meeting

Alexandra Eala is doing wonders to the popularity of tennis in the Philippines right now and it remains to be seen just how far she can go. For now she’s coming into this event on the back of a WTA 125 title in Guadalajara, which required huge comeback wins against Varvara Lepchenko and Panna Udvardy. She might start feeling the fatigue at some point this week, but her base level and lefty counter-punching game should be way more than enough to defeat Yasmine Mansouri in the opening round.
Prediction: Eala in 2
