Hold on now, the Michigan Panthers might not be moving out of Detroit after all

Things change pretty fast in the sports world. In late July, it was reported by UFL reporter James Larsen that the Michigan Panthers and three other UFL teams were to be relocated after the 2025 season. That was obviously a big disappointment to a lot of Detroit locals who had begun to make the Panthers their team.

It was also a surprise since the Panthers had just played in the UFL Championship game, had the league MVP, and were the only team in the league to increase attendance in 2025. So why would the league want to move its burgeoning market? The working theory was that the UFL wanted to have its teams in cities that aren't currently inhabited by NFL teams.

Then things changed pretty fast when the UFL brought in a new co-owner in former Bodyarmor and Vitamin Water owner Mike Repole, who now owns NoBull athletic wear. He will be taking over all league operations. Repole's statement on the teams that are expected to relocate shows that things are a lot more fluid than initially reported.

"We’re talking to the current teams, we’re talking to the possible new areas, new cities, new venues, and I think within 30 days we’re going to announce at least two changes and maybe up to four…”

Two teams are guaranteed to move at this point, and Memphis is known to be one of them. So we could know the answer to whether or not the Panthers are staying in Detroit in September, which is right around the corner. If the Panthers do wind up staying in 2026, that likely might not mean they're totally safe. That means if you like this team, you need to start going to the games and buying some merchandise to ensure that they stick.

We'll see what happens in due time, but as for now, there's a chance the Panthers aren't going anywhere. That's great news if it happens.
