Evo Japan 2026 featured many fighting game reveals at Tokyo Big Sight. A refreshed version of Melty Blood: Type Lumina led the announcements with new characters and a new story, set to release in early 2027.

The update aims to keep the game relevant in the competitive scene, adding system changes that could change how it is played, not just add content.

Several other fighting game announcements were also revealed during the event according to reports from Siliconera and EventHubs.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls have two more characters in the pipeline when the game launches on August 6. Black Panther and the Incredible Hulk are set to join Captain America and Iron Man. Shuri will be seen as the Black Panther instead of T’Challa.

Kunimitsu received her gameplay trailer, marking her return to the Tekken 8 roster. This is important for the competitive community as her speed and evasion mix-ups will force players to adapt to a more unpredictable matchup, disrupting the current pressure-based meta.

Being a DLC character, players who pre-purchased will be able to access her on May 27, while others will have to wait until June 1 to purchase the character.

With all the reveals during the event, the focus shifted towards DLCs and balance updates.

A Carnival of Announcements at Evo Japan 2026

World Heroes Perfect is now available on Steam for $14.99 until May 8, with new modes like Practice and Gallery Mode, after which it returns to its original price of $19.99. The game features 19 characters and supports up to 9-player lobbies.

SNK’s Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond are returning to Dead or Alive 6: Last Round as DLC characters and will have to be purchased separately.

SNK also revealed Mr. Karate as the next DLC character for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. There was also an announcement that The King of Fighters 15 will receive a new balance update, adjusting the complete roster.

Finally, Under Night In-Birth II is getting a new character, Zohar along with a balance update adjusting some characters’ power.

These reveals set up the Evo 2026 tournament in Las Vegas later during the year where players will test the characters and updates. Early matches will show how the changes affect the competitive scene, with limited time for practice.
