Beloved Pac-Man Gets an Official Quirky Cookbook

Pac-Man has been everywhere. Ever since the yellow dot muncher first arrived in arcades in 1980, he has been featured in clothing, cartoons, songs, and more. Those of a certain age will remember when Pac-Man fever was everywhere. Keeping all that in mind, it’s not surprising that he now has his own cookbook.

According to the cookbook’s official site, it contains over sixty Pac-Man-inspired recipes, “from energy-filled snacks to super-filling dinners.” It also doubles as a historical look at Pac-Man over the years, with art that chronicles the history of Pac-Man games. The art alone is sure to satisfy fans of the classic game series, and adding the creative recipes to the art should make for a fun experience.

The Recipes

Some of the recipes include “Ghost Cake Pops,” which are cake pops made to look like the ghosts Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde, and “Cherry Pocket Pies,” which are pies that look like the famous cherries from the game. Other recipes aren’t so explicitly tied to the game, such as the “Smashing It Smash Burger,” which is a burger meant to reference “smashing” a level. This seems like a filler recipe that has little to do with the theme, but that might not matter so much if the burger is good.

The Release Date

Pac-Man: The Official Cookbook, written by Lisa Kingsley and Jennifer Peterson, comes out on May 13. It currently has no reviews on Amazon, so it’s hard to tell yet if the recipes are any good. The Kindle version will cost $12.99, and the hardcover version will cost $29.99.

Maze-Clearing Triumph or Ghostly Gimmick?

Of course, there’s an obvious question. How many people were begging for a whole cookbook dedicated to Pac-Man-inspired recipes? Probably not many, but now that the cookbook exists, there are bound to be curious fans checking it out. Perhaps you could throw some arcade-themed parties where you serve Ghost Cake Pops and Cherry Pocket Pies. Even if the recipes themselves aren’t great, it should still be a treat to look through the artwork and explore the history of the iconic yellow circle.
