Dragon Quest is an iconic JRPG franchise published by Square Enix, a company known for its long-standing RPG series, including Final Fantasy, Mana, SaGa, Bravely Default, and the more recent titles like Octopath Traveler. While fans continue to wait for the highly anticipated Dragon Quest XII, Square has been feeding the gaming community remake titles to appease them. The first of these was Dragon Quest III, which, despite being a later title, actually comes earlier in the series timeline. Recently, the company officially announced a remake package of Dragon Quest I and II in the same style, and we finally have a launch date.

Dragon Quest I and II Coming In October

Dragon Quest XII continues to be a mystery, but at least fans can indulge in some upcoming series content. The last Remake that Square Enix undertook, DQIII, took the game and gave it an entirely new face, including graphic upgrades utilizing the publisher’s now infamous HD-2D style, battle system modernization, and even some storyline alteration. This same approach has been taken with the newest remakes as well.

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will offer players the final two parts of the Erdrick trilogy (chronologically) in a fresh way. As Game Informer explains, “Outside of the HD-2D graphical facelift, the battle system has been refined, and the games include quality-of-life updates. Square Enix also teases new content for both titles and plans to provide specific details later.” As we have seen from previous trailers, that seems to include a new character with a fresh storyline. Also new is the announcement that the game will launch on Switch 2, along with all previously announced systems.
