Today was the first day of Gamescom 2025, and they just dropped some epic first gameplay trailers, one of which is Silent Hill f. Personally, my most anticipated game of the year, Silent Hill f is set to take place in 1960s Japan, following a girl named Hinako, who becomes trapped in a Silent Hill version of her hometown. Gamescom just released a new trailer, and here is the breakdown.
This trailer focuses a lot more on the story of this Silent Hill game. Hinako Shimizu is the main protagonist of this game, shown to wake up in a hellish version of her hometown. It’s empty and creepy vibes gives us everything and nothing at the same time. The trailer is filled with ambiguity, from the radio static in the beginning to the white-haired shaman with the kitsune mask we meet towards the end of the trailer.
All we know is that Hinako is a lost soul, traversing this hell equipped with a rusty pipe, and she “saved someone’s soul”, and he wants to return the favor. Only time will tell if we can truly trust this mysterious voice or if he is another gruesome monster of Silent Hill wanting Hinako’s Soul.
We only get a few seconds of Silent Hill f gameplay, but it’s enough (for now). We get a first look at two creatures we will try to fend off, a grotesque mannequin-looking monster wielding a katana and a creature made of limbs that lets off a sonic scream. It seems we can also change out weapons, as the gameplay had Hinako wielding some sort of bo staff or spear, as opposed to the pipe we were introduced to in the first trailer.
Silent Hill is personally one of my favorite horror series, and I know there are many fans chomping at the bit until its release on September 25. Couple that with Japanese-style horror (also another favorite of mine), and some Japanese mythology, and it’s hard to imagine this game sucking at all. Silent Hill f is available for preorder now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, so make sure to get a copy of it now!
