For those unfamiliar with the God of War series, Christopher Judge provides the legendary voice of Kratos. Judge recently shared a pretty exciting hope for the franchise’s future, exciting fans across the gaming industry. He specifically mentioned wanting the next adventure to take the iconic Spartan warrior to ancient Egypt. During a panel at MCM London Comic Con, the voice actor let this exciting news slip before quickly walking it back. Following his statement, is a third game in the rebooted series secretly in the works?
The tremendously successful 2022 release, God of War Ragnarok, was the last time players saw Kratos. According to Judge, the reason the third game should have an Egyptian setting is deeply personal, stemming from his iconic role as Teal’c in Stargate. Furthermore, going to Egypt would complete a special circle that the Judge wanted to accomplish in his career. Of course, the voice actor immediately clarified that he has no official news about the game.
Moreover, he expressed that any pantheon the developers choose would undoubtedly be great. Just imagine Kratos facing off against a giant crocodile god or solving a sphinx’s riddle, only to get annoyed and punch it? An Egyptian-located God of War game would be a massive and thrilling visual departure from the Norse realms, with players surrounded by the pyramids and deserts.
Although Judge shows clear enthusiasm for the next chapter of Krato’s story, PlayStation itself has not announced or even hinted at a post-Ragnarok game. Fans shouldn’t take Judge’s comments as confirmation that a third game is being developed, but simply as fun speculation. With the last two games being a critical and commercial success, stopping the saga now would be a great shock. Given the open ending of Ragnarok, it’s only a matter of time before Kratos must grab his Leviathan Axe for another journey.
Three years may have gone by since the last God of War game, but fans continue to wait with only their anticipation for the company. The core idea of bringing Kratos’ story to Egypt remains incredibly compelling. Whether Judge accidentally revealed a secret or was just daydreaming aloud, the prospect of a new game is thrilling. Given the franchise’s proven track record, exploring a new mythology is the logical next step. That said, players will have a fun experience bringing the God of War‘s uniquely forceful brand of conflict resolution to the land of the pharaohs.
