Marvel Rivals Season 3.5 is here, and it’s not just another lightweight patch update to ignore while you queue your next game. No, this mid-season refresh is packed with enough new content and gameplay tweaks to keep players smashing buttons and their enemies for weeks to come. Whether you’re popping in for Blade, salivating over the new map, or just here to complain about balance changes (you know who you are), there’s something for everyone. Buckle up; we’re going in deep.
First up, the legendary half-vampire and full-time badass Blade joins the roster as a brand-new Duelist hero. If you’ve been longing for a character that slaps harder than a late-night infomercial offer, Blade’s got you covered. Armed with a mid-to-close-range shotgun for tearing through enemy shields and the razor-sharp Ancestral Sword to dice up his prey, Blade makes quick work of anyone who dares to cross his path.
Oh, and did we mention his Dhampir bloodline power? Yeah, it lets him chow down on foes’ healing abilities like they’re last week’s leftovers. And just when you think he’s out, Blade unleashes his Sword of Dracula, leaving a soul-crushing trail of damage as he slices through everyone in sight. Honestly, if you’re not insta-locking Blade in your next match, what are you even doing?
Say goodbye to Guardian Revival and Atlas Bond (seriously, did anyone like those?) and hello to Duality Dance and Vibrant Vitality. These fresh Team-Up abilities are dialing things up while giving heroes like Adam Warlock, Loki, and Groot a little extra love.
And just in case you were wondering, Blade slots into the Lunar Force lineup. Synergy never looked so sharp.
Ever felt like you’ve been playing on repeat maps since the dawn of Marvel Rivals? Well, it’s time to swap out those old stomping grounds for the Throne of Kull, a new map rolling out on August 22. Catch it in Quick Match first (because, you know, dev feedback is a thing), then expect it to hit Ranked once it’s polished.
Paired with Throne of Kull is Resource Rumble, a new game mode. Unfortunately, the devs are playing coy about what exactly Resource Rumble will involve. Fingers crossed it’s something more strategic than “stand here and don’t die,” but hey, we won’t hold our breath.
If you’ve raged over a teammate ditching mid-match, boy, do the devs feel your pain. Season 3.5 brings harsher penalties for players who abandon Competitive matches early. Think longer bans and heavier point losses. And for the poor souls left to fend for themselves? You’ll get some sweet compensation points for sticking it out. Finally, something to make those unnecessarily stressful games feel a little less unfair.
Oh, and if you’re the type of player who gets muted a lot, heads up. Text chat filters are now a thing, and most toxic words will vanish faster than an AFK player. Pair that with automated voice screening, and Season 3.5 is swinging hard at trolls.
You know the drill at this point. Every new season or mid-season update shifts the meta just enough for us to relearn all our previously perfect strategies. Blade’s introduction and Team-Up ability changes are likely to create new hero pairings while making a few classics feel laughably underpowered. (RIP Nash mains.) If you’re not experimenting in Quick Matches now, expect tears in Competitive.
Throw in stricter rules around player behavior and better map diversity, and Marvel Rivals is shaping up to remind us why we fell for this game in the first place. Well, except when our team still refuses to group up. That hasn’t been patched yet.
