With the Nintendo Switch 2 on the way, what are you supposed to do with your beloved Switch 1 games? Nintendo is introducing a feature called “Virtual Game Cards,” which allows you to transfer your digital games from one system to another. In addition to the convenience, the feature also lets you hide the games in your library.

What Are Nintendo Switch Virtual Game Cards?

In short, Virtual Game Cards are meant to help digital games function like physical games. It utilizes wireless connection to “eject” a game from one system and then “insert” it into another. According to GameRant, “The process only needs to be completed once to fully transfer a game from one system to the next, but is limited to sharing between two consoles.” If you have a Nintendo family plan, you can also “lend” games to each other for up to two weeks.

Hiding Games in Your Library

Or, if there are games in your library that you’d prefer for others not to see, you can hide games from your library. However, you have to redownload the game after removing the “hide” option. Why would anyone use this feature? For one thing, it keeps children from accessing their parents’ copies of the Grand Theft Auto games. If there are certain games you’d prefer your friends not to play, you can hide them from view. It might also simply help you clear out your menu so that it’s not cluttered up with games you don’t play often.

This Update is (Phew) Free

After the Nintendo Switch 2 has been the subject of massive controversy for its high prices, even charging for a “game” that is essentially a tutorial, you’ll be glad to know that digital games have been converted to Virtual Game Cards for free. All Switch owners can use this feature, even if they opt not to get a Switch 2. If you want to transfer games from one Switch to another or you want to loan digital games to each other through a family plan, you can do so with relative ease now. In addition, if you don’t want your friends to see the raunchy dating sim you secretly enjoy, you can hide it from their eyes.
