The No Man’s Sky Omega Expedition update just landed, and it adds deeper quests, better expeditions, and even a free trial for the open-world space game. The free NMS Omega update is available on all platforms, and while the Omega Expedition lasts until Feb. 29, 2024, the free trial only runs from Feb. 16 through Feb. 19.
The broader Omega update takes expeditions out of their own mode and includes them more seamlessly in the main game. You can join expeditions with your own provisions, ships, and tools, and then take all your rewards back to your main save.
Hello Games promised the Omega Expedition rewards are the best in the game so far, including a new ship, and the expedition itself is designed to welcome newcomers and still present longtime players with a steep challenge.
Speaking of rewards, the Atlas Path is getting a small revamp, with a new jetpack, helmet, and staff up for grabs.
Dreadnought capital ships are pilotable for the first time in the update as well. After you fend off pirates and board an enemy Dreadnought, you can take control of it and fly around the galaxy to your heart’s content.
Finally, the No Man’s Sky Omega Expedition update changes how quests work on planets. Hello Games said that each planet has dozens of new, procedurally generated quests tied to the aliens who live there. The kind of quest you get changes depending on the lifeform who gives it to you, their personality, and even the climate and geography of where they live on the planet.
If you play during the free weekend, you can carry all progress made to the full game, if you decide to purchase it.
