Wuyang will become the 44th hero added to Overwatch 2. Players can try out Wuyang during his trial from August 14th to August 18th. If you miss out on trying him during this period, you will need to wait until August 26th when he gets released in Season 18. Thanks to the developer livestream and through testing Wuyang during the trial, we have all the details you need to master the water-based support hero.

Xuanwhu Staff – Fire a damaging water orb. Hold to control its trajectory and empower its explosion.

During the developer livestream before Wuyang’s trial releases, Alec Dawson and Scott Kennedy emphasised the importance of his primary fire. You can control his orb to move around buildings, shields, and follow enemies. His primary fire allows you to have a high damage output, similar to Zenyatta. Players can alternate between spamming the orb to go in one direction or holding it down to control the orb in the direction they want it to go.

Restorative Stream – Place a passive healing stream on an ally. Hold on to the target to manually heal at an improved rate, consuming the resource.

Restorative stream is Wuyang’s passive healing, which has similar properties to Zenyatta’s Harmony Orb. It heals for less than what Harmony Orb does, but Wuyang has a way to improve the healing. Holding down the right click on a target with the stream increases the healing amount. However, you need to be careful as it rapidly consumes a resource that does not regenerate quickly.

Rushing Torrent – Ride the water to move faster and jump higher

Rushing Torrent is a basic ability to understand. Once you activate it, Wuyang rides a wave that allows you to move around faster in all directions and increase your jump height.

Guardian Wave – Send a water wave forward that increases the amount of healing received by allies and knocks back enemies.

Guardian Wave has multiple use cases. You can use it defensively to save yourself or your teammates with the burst healing and an increase to healing received, knock away enemies charging you or your allies down, or aggressively to guarantee a kill on an enemy.

Tidal Blast – Protect an ally or yourself with water that detonates after a short duration. The explosion knocks down enemies and deals massive healing to the target.

The way you use Tidal Blast depends on the situation you find yourself in. Do you need to react to the enemy’s aggression, or enable an ally to decimate the backline? Either way, the ultimate has a high value ceiling. Casting it on yourself has a brief cast window. If you die during it, you lose your ultimate. If you or your ally dies before the ultimate ends, the explosion does not happen.

Water Bending Wuyang Tips

Dashing with Rushing Torrent

A minor but vital tip is to jump right before you use Rushing Torrent. Doing so will give you a dash in the direction you are moving. It is helpful when trying to keep up with your teammates or to avoid heroes like Winston, Tracer, Doomfist, or Genji.

Reactive Cooldown Usage

A Wuyang Rushing Torrent or Guardian Wave is susceptible to enemies diving or running him down. Both cooldowns can be used to keep yourself alive for longer or get out of danger. Even after using them, you might die, but the more resources you force out of them, the higher the chance your team has to punish them and win the fight.

Positioning

Positioning is vital for every hero in Overwatch. For Wuyang, you need to play at a relatively safe distance. Doing so will prevent enemies from closing the gap quickly on you and allow you to deal consistent damage. Take high ground whenever you get the chance, since you lack the vertical mobility otherwise. High ground gives you a better view of the fight, allowing for a higher damage output and more time to react to plays.

No Panic Ulting

To get maximum value out of Tidal Blast, you must have a plan in mind for it. Is there an enemy ultimate you need to counter in the next fight? Are you protecting a teammate who is ulting? Do you want to enable a tank like Winston, Ramattra, or Reinhardt to press further into the backline? A reminder that the explosion takes a couple of seconds to trigger, so ensure an ally is close enough to get the damage and knockdown. Lastly, ulting yourself has a cast time. Using it when you are low on health will likely result in you losing the ultimate.
