If you don’t already have Playdead’s platformers Limbo and Inside in your GOG library, you’d best get them quickly! They’re leaving on July 17. So, time is short.

Released in July 2010, on GOG, Limbo is described as “a black and white puzzle-platforming adventure. Players take the role of a young boy traveling through an eerie and treacherous world in an attempt to discover the fate of his sister.” On their official website, The Escapist is quoted as saying, “Limbo is genius. Freaky, weird genius. Disturbing, uncomfortable genius.”
The sequel, Inside, was released in 2016. The description on GOG says, “Hunted and alone, a boy finds himself drawn into the center of a dark project.”
Both games have unique visuals with weird and dark themes. They have a minimalist style that holds up even now. In the comments on the trailer for Limbo, you’ll see many positive remarks, including, ” This is not a game. It’s an Artistic masterpiece.” Fans of the horror genre should consider these for their collection. Especially now, GOG has a 10% series discount if you purchase both, and Inside is discounted to $1.99. (Always check prices in case they change!)
Why Playdead’s games are being pulled from the GOG store has not been revealed. It’s possible, though not confirmed, that this could relate to legal troubles between Playdead and their co-founder Dino Patti. Patti left in 2016, after Inside was released. In March, Playdead sent legal demands to Patti demanding that he pay compensation for “infringement and unauthorized use of Playdead’s trademarks and copyrighted works in a commercial and marketing context.”
Since both games remain available on other platforms like Steam and Epic Games, it seems this isn’t relevant, but only time will reveal if that’s the case. Whatever the reason, these classic examples of horror puzzle platformers are priced very well, and if GOG is your game store of choice, you’ll want to hurry and nab them before July 17, 2025.
