Resident Evil Requiem is shaping up to be one of 2026’s biggest survival horror drops, and now the rumor mill’s spinning again: multiple sources claim it’s headed not just to next-gen platforms, but also to Nintendo’s Switch 2 and—brace yourself—the PlayStation 4.

The leak comes courtesy of Dusk Golem, a longtime Resident Evil insider who says five separate sources have corroborated the claim. And while Switch 2 makes sense (especially given Capcom’s recent praise for its early reception), the PS4 mention feels like a ghost from a console generation that should’ve been buried with RE7.

The PS4 Port: Nostalgia or Noise?

According to Dusk Golem, Requiem’s PS4 version would be a scaled-down build—think reduced visual effects, stripped ray tracing, and likely a few missing bells and whistles. Basically, a throwback to the 360/PS3 vs. Wii/PS2 split-era logic: same title, different tech.

But with PS6 rumors already circulating and Capcom openly calling PS5 pricing a “barrier” for players, the idea of a PS4 port starts to look less like fan service and more like market math. Still, it’s wild to see publishers targeting a console that launched over a decade ago while simultaneously teasing next-gen hardware.

Switch 2 Makes More Sense—And Capcom Knows It

Capcom’s internal chatter gives us some speculation that the Switch 2 is outperforming expectations, and Requiem landing there would be a strategic win. Portable horror, upgraded visuals, and a massive install base? That’s a no-brainer. Especially if Capcom wants to avoid the pricing pitfalls that hit Monster Hunter Wilds.

Final Thoughts: If Requiem’s Going Cross-Gen, It Better Be Worth It

Resident Evil Requiem is already generating buzz for its visuals and tone, but if Capcom’s really planning a cross-gen rollout, they’ll need to nail the optimization. Because if the PS4 version feels like a downgrade and the Switch 2 version gets throttled, players will notice—and they won’t be quiet about it.

For now, it’s all rumor. But if this leak holds, Requiem could be one of the last major titles to straddle console generations. Let’s just hope it doesn’t get stuck between them.
