First, let’s take a look at what Riot Games has done and what John has brought us. Riot Games began in 2006 by Brandon Beck and Marc Miller and has been so successful since that time that it has even inspired a television series from its League of Legends game. The company was founded with the idea that many of its competitors diverted their focus too much, sacrificing one game for another. It was founded with the idea of setting loftier goals without having to diversify too much into other projects.

Hits League of Legends & Valorant

Their first successful release was League of Legends, which was released with a free-to-play version late in 2009. Its success grew over the years when, in 2013, League of Legends was the most-played multiplayer PC game. Its success kept growing when it only grew to have over 100 million monthly players as of 2016. They won’t be done yet, as it was given a mobile version as well as a digital collectible card game spin-off.

The next big hit Riot Games brought us was Valorant, which was released in June 2020. Valorant is a first-person shooter hero-free-to-play game. Each hero holds specific abilities to aid their party in overcoming their opponents. It’s playable on PC Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S as well as cross-play. Its tactical gameplay is set in the near future as players take on the roles of character Agents from several different cultures from around the world. In its release, it has surpassed its earnings and is going strong.

Riot Games Legacy & Future

There have been other successful game releases that Riot Games has brought to the world. Games like 2XKO, The Mageseeker, Mechs vs Minions, Teamfight Tactics, and Tellstones: King’s Gambit. Under Mr. Needham, Riot Games has established a worth of about $22 billion. Now let’s take a look at Hoby’s history so we can guess what Riot Games has in store for us. He has made a career working with sports and tech when it comes to gaming. He has had several leadership positions working with Logitech, Skullcandy/Astro Gaming, Nike, as well as Volcom.

Riot Games has established a pattern of success in taking player feedback for its first-person philosophy strategy games. It looks like they are trying to stay with that tradition while branching out with Darling’s expertise on current and future projects. If you are worried at all about what his leadership might mean for Riot Games, below is a statement by him.

Darlings Press Release

He said in a press release, “The first time I walked into Riot, I felt a scrappy, soulful, and courageous energy I knew I needed to be a part of. I’ve worked with a lot of companies, and there’s something special about a place that takes risks, challenges convention, and stays fiercely committed to its mission. Riot has a long history of creating experiences that truly matter to players, and I couldn’t be more excited to work alongside passionate Rioters who push each other to do their best work every day.”
